Can you install luxury vinyl tile over linoleum?

If you can't remove your old vinyl floors due to asbestos or other problems, consider laying a new tile right on top. If the vinyl is in good shape, with no missing or loose tiles, there is no need to remove it. Just make sure that it’s smooth and gap free. If there are gaps you might have to do some floor prep.

Can I install my floor on the same day it was purchased?

Floating vinyl floors must acclimate for 48 hours in the area before installation. Failure to properly acclimate will result in joints being difficult to engage, peaking, buckling and stressing of the joints which will lead to a failure of the mechanism.

Can you install cabinets and islands on top of a Locking LVT?

No. Cabinets and Islands cannot be installed on top of floating floors.

How much waste should I add to purchase.

WHAT SUBFLOORS ARE APPROVED FOR LUXURY VINYL PRODUCTS?

Allowed subfloors are:
Concrete, Underlayment grade plywood, Exterior grade plywood (sanded face, B-C or better grade), properly prepared non-cushion backed vinyl flooring.
All subfloors must be clean, dry and free of contaminants such as oil, grease, paint, sealers, waxes, curing compounds, excessive moisture, hydrostatic pressure. Floors must be structurally sound, rigid, flat to 3/16" in 10 feet

WHY NOT OSB OR OTHER SUBFLOORS?

OSB, particle board, Masonite and other non-underlayment grade plywood are generally not smooth and not constructed with exterior rated adhesives, making them susceptible to moisture related failures. Additionally, OSB and particle-type boards may have a coating which is not compatible with flooring adhesives (including self-stick adhesives) and will prevent a proper bond.

WHY IS ACCLIMATION REQUIRED AND HOW LONG AND @ WHAT TEMPERATURE?

Acclimation allows the solid vinyl flooring to become equal to the installed environment. This will better allow the flooring to become more stable during normal temperature fluctuations. With floating installations, acclimation allows the product to properly relax and the joints to be properly engaged. All floors must be acclimated under normal site conditions and temperatures for 48 hours prior to installation.

SHOULD I USE FLOOR PROTECTORS?

Floor protectors are necessary! Nylon type protectors are the best to use. Felt protectors can be used but must be changed frequently to keep the amount of embedded debris to a minimum.
